05—About us
A business that started from a job and a hobby.

How We Started
607 Balloon Craft started with an overheard phone call and a post-it note.
I was at work at my part-time craft store job when I walked into the office to find my manager on the phone with a coworker, asking if they wanted to help set up a party and blow up balloons. Before she could finish, I jumped in with “wait, what now?” A woman had called asking for help with her daughter's graduation party, and my manager handed me a post-it note with a name, a phone number, and a date.
When I called, she asked the question I didn't expect: “Have you ever built a balloon arch?”
I told her the truth — no, but I'd done balloon decorations for my own kids' parties, and I had my own electric inflator. She said it was easy, and I spent the weeks before the party on a full crash course of tutorials. My very first job ever was an arch and a garland, built from balloons she'd already bought.
She also told me something that stuck: she couldn't find anyone in the area who did balloons, and what I could find was priced beyond what an average person could pay. That's when I decided, if I ever did this for real, I'd make it available to the average person — not just people with deep pockets.
The day of the event, I showed up with my sizer, my inflator, and the whole toolbox. Every time someone told me it looked great, I said the same thing: “I'm not a professional, I just work at a craft store!”
None of this happens without me interrupting a phone call — but it also wouldn't have happened without a great, supportive manager. She could have let the first person she asked take the job. Instead, she handed me a post-it note. Some people change your life with a grand gesture. Mine did it with a post-it. Who knew my minimum-wage cashier job would yield an actual business?
That's how 607 Balloon Craft was born: one overheard phone call, a post-it note, and a lot of YouTube. 🎈
